I am going to tell you about my tattoos and what they mean to me.
My very first tattoo I got when I was like 19 with my friends as my support. I got the outline of a star, very basic style. It's located on the top of my foot about an inch up and half an inch over from my pinky toe. I have always loved stars. I love when it's dark out and you can just stare up at the stars.
This is my least favorite tattoo now. I wanted a tattoo so bad I didn't really think through the concept. It's just so boring and now everyone has a star tattoo on their feet. I like it but I wish I would have made it a constellation instead of a symbol.
My second tattoo was along my hairline/sort of on my neck. It says "La Vita e Bella" which is Italian for life is beautiful. I chose it for my grandmother. I am named after her, she passed away before my parents were married. She was a very loving and sassy Italian woman. For me it's like having her advice just behind my ear to remind me to stop and smell the roses.
My third tattoo is roses on my shoulder. I joined a sorority in college, their symbol is a rose. I chose it because all through high school I did what I thought everyone else was doing. I really just wanted to fit in. I didn't make waves, or be myself. I just pretended to be this person to make everyone else happy. My sorority helped me really learn who I was and what I wanted. It also is also a metaphor for me blooming into my own person.
My fourth tattoo is a dainty anchor on my wrist. I got it with my former best friend. We aren't best friends any longer, we still get along!! We just drifted apart. I still love her as a person! People grow up and grow a part. It's a part of life. Before anyone asks no, I don't regret getting matching tattoos. The tattoo is cute. My mom actually wants to get a tattoo in the same spot now. (And my mom "hates" tattoos)
I do want more tattoos but my husband has none, so he has stated he needs one before I am allowed anymore.
I really want a mermaid related tattoo, I know mermaids have gained popularity but I have had a mermaid obsession since childhood. (I love that it's popular right now because I love mermaid everything!)
I want something to represent the Scottish clan I am a member of. I believe I previously stated my family is Scottish. I was raised at Highland Games and Festivals. I used to be a competitive Highland Dancer. I miss it, it's a part of my heritage and a part of who I am.
My best friend Liz and I talked about getting matching/friendship tattoos. (Yes I am really considering it.) We joked about something Lord of the Rings related, but nothing really substantial at this time.
Tell me about you? Do you have any tattoos? What do you have? Do you have a favorite? Do you regret any? Let me know in the comments!
