My whole life my mom had a best friend. Back when I was a child, I couldn't wait until I had the same kind relationship. I remember kind of wishing that "Best Friend" status on all my friends.
I have other best friends growing up, but not like Liz. I genuinely believe everyone has a soul mate and your best friend is the friend equivalent.
When I was new at Subway I worked with a guy named Caleb. It's funny because I remember when we started working together Caleb intimidated me which made me feel that I needed to befriend him and for him to like me. We quickly became friends.
St. Patrick's Day 2011 I went out with my long time friends Danielle and her now husband, DJ. We ran into Caleb and his friends Sam, and Liz who just moved back from Minnesota. I bought a tray of shooters and nobody at my table wanted any part of them so I went over to Caleb's table to share. We all ended up dancing at the bar and having a grand old time.
That December I ended up being in Liz's wedding.
She is that friend that believes in me and wants the best for me and isn't afraid to tell me if she thinks I am making a mistake that I will regret for the rest of my life.
Liz and I graduated the same year, she went to a high school 25 miles away from mine. We live in a small area where everyone knows each other, and I had lots of friends at the school she went to. When we talk about High School we both agree we wish we would have known each other because we definitely would have been friends.
Liz and I can just drive around and talk for hours about nothing. She's a great support system and she thinks my cheesy jokes are funny. We can hangout and vent absolute nonsense and that nonsense is respected by both parties. Someday we will be the troublemakers at the nursing home and I look forward to it.
